Post-Publication Discussion

Introduction

Metta: Jurnal Ilmu Multidisiplin, published by Jayapangus Press, is committed to maintaining the integrity, transparency, accountability, and credibility of scholarly publications across the humanities, social sciences, management, and related multidisciplinary fields.

The journal recognizes that the evaluation and development of scholarly knowledge do not end when an article is published but continue through academic discussion, constructive criticism, clarification, critical interpretation, and the exchange of ideas.

In accordance with the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and internationally recognized publication ethics standards, Metta: Jurnal Ilmu Multidisiplin welcomes scholarly responses, constructive criticism, and requests for clarification concerning previously published articles.

This policy applies to all published manuscript types, including Original Research Articles, Review Articles, Case Studies, and Literary Studies.

The policy aims to strengthen multidisciplinary academic dialogue, improve research quality, encourage critical scholarly engagement, promote academic accountability, and safeguard the reliability and integrity of the published scholarly record.

Scope of Post-Publication Discussion

Metta: Jurnal Ilmu Multidisiplin welcomes scholarly discussions, critical evaluations, and academic responses concerning:

  1. Theoretical arguments, conceptual frameworks, philosophical perspectives, and scholarly interpretations presented in published articles.

  2. Research methodologies, data collection procedures, analytical techniques, and the validity or credibility of research findings.

  3. The accuracy, reliability, reproducibility, and scholarly significance of published research results.

  4. Alternative interpretations, additional evidence, theoretical developments, and relevant academic debates.

  5. Historical, cultural, religious, social, political, legal, economic, organizational, or managerial interpretations presented in published research.

  6. The relevance and implications of research findings for disciplinary knowledge, interdisciplinary scholarship, or professional practice.

  7. Potential factual errors, methodological limitations, analytical inconsistencies, or ethical concerns relating to published articles.

Post-publication discussions may address research within the journal's three principal disciplinary areas:

a. Humanities: Scholarly discussions involving arts, history, languages, literature, music, philosophy, religion, theater, cultural studies, and related humanities disciplines.

b. Social Sciences: Scholarly discussions involving geography, sociology, education, political science, law, public policy, social studies, anthropology, and related social science disciplines.

c. Management: Scholarly discussions involving commerce, economics, finance, accounting, corporate governance, human resource management, marketing management, quality management, training and development, and related management disciplines.

Interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary discussions integrating perspectives from these fields are also welcomed.

All contributions must be academically relevant, supported by reasoned arguments or verifiable evidence, and presented in a constructive, objective, and professional manner.

Legitimate differences in scholarly interpretation, theoretical perspectives, methodological approaches, or academic conclusions do not automatically constitute errors or violations of publication ethics.

Submission of Scholarly Responses

Metta: Jurnal Ilmu Multidisiplin welcomes scholarly responses that critically engage with articles previously published in the journal.

Such responses may take the form of letters to the editor, critical comments, academic clarifications, or scholarly responses that contribute to ongoing academic discussions within the humanities, social sciences, management, and related multidisciplinary fields.

These forms of communication constitute mechanisms for post-publication scholarly discussion and do not establish additional regular manuscript categories beyond those specified in the journal's Author Guidelines.

Submissions must clearly identify the published article under discussion, including its title, author names, publication details, and Digital Object Identifier (DOI), where available.

Scholarly responses must:

  1. Present clear, objective, and academically justified arguments.

  2. Demonstrate direct relevance to the published article and the journal's Focus and Scope.

  3. Identify the specific findings, interpretations, methodologies, theoretical arguments, or conclusions being discussed.

  4. Support substantive criticism with relevant scholarly literature, verifiable evidence, or appropriate analytical reasoning.

  5. Demonstrate originality and contribute meaningfully to scholarly discussion.

  6. Maintain professional academic language and avoid unsupported personal allegations.

  7. Disclose any relevant financial or non-financial conflicts of interest.

  8. Comply with the journal's Publication Ethics and applicable editorial requirements.

Scholarly responses may be submitted through the journal's official editorial communication channels or its online submission system where an appropriate post-publication correspondence mechanism is available.

Such communications are handled as post-publication correspondence rather than as additional regular article types.

Scholarly responses are considered selectively and are subject to initial editorial assessment of their relevance, academic merit, originality, evidentiary support, and suitability for the journal's disciplinary coverage.

The Editorial Board determines whether a response requires further evaluation, clarification, independent expert assessment, or formal publication as an editorially managed scholarly discussion.

Submission of a scholarly response does not guarantee its acceptance, publication, or inclusion in the journal's published scholarly record.

Editorial Assessment and Review

All post-publication scholarly responses undergo an initial editorial assessment to evaluate their relevance, academic quality, supporting evidence, clarity of argumentation, and compliance with publication ethics.

The assessment considers whether the response:

  1. Addresses a specific scholarly issue arising from a previously published article.

  2. Presents academically meaningful criticism, clarification, or additional interpretation.

  3. Provides sufficient theoretical, empirical, documentary, textual, statistical, or other relevant evidence.

  4. Demonstrates originality and contributes constructively to academic knowledge.

  5. Complies with the journal's ethical standards and applicable editorial requirements.

When necessary, the Editor-in-Chief may seek advice from independent academic experts or arrange additional peer review, particularly for responses involving substantial methodological, analytical, theoretical, or research-integrity concerns.

The evaluation must consider the disciplinary characteristics of the published article and the scholarly standards appropriate to the humanities, social sciences, management, or relevant interdisciplinary fields.

Metta: Jurnal Ilmu Multidisiplin distinguishes legitimate scholarly disagreement from allegations of research misconduct.

Concerns suggesting plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, authorship manipulation, unethical research practices, or other publication ethics violations must be addressed through the journal's Allegations of Research Misconduct Policy and other applicable research-integrity procedures.

Where appropriate, investigations will refer to relevant COPE guidance.

All editorial assessments and decisions must be conducted fairly, objectively, independently, and without discrimination or inappropriate influence.

Authors' Right to Respond

When substantive scholarly criticism or a critical comment concerning a published article is being considered for publication, the corresponding author of the article concerned will normally be invited to respond.

Authors must be given a reasonable opportunity to:

  1. Explain or clarify their research objectives, theoretical foundations, and methodological procedures.

  2. Defend or elaborate on the interpretation of their research findings.

  3. Provide additional supporting evidence or relevant scholarly references.

  4. Respond to methodological criticism or alternative theoretical interpretations.

  5. Clarify potential misunderstandings concerning the published research.

  6. Acknowledge identified errors or limitations when appropriate.

Authors' responses must be academically justified, respectful, and supported by relevant scholarly arguments or evidence.

Metta: Jurnal Ilmu Multidisiplin may publish scholarly comments and corresponding author responses simultaneously or as separate, electronically linked scholarly communications, subject to editorial assessment and the journal's publication procedures.

Where appropriate, the editor may permit further responses from the original contributor or other relevant parties.

The editorial team may limit subsequent exchanges to ensure that discussions remain academically focused, constructive, proportionate, and relevant to the original scholarly issues.

The absence of an author response does not automatically prevent the publication of a scholarly criticism that is supported by sufficient academic evidence and has satisfied the journal's editorial requirements.

Authors retain the right to defend their scholarly interpretations while remaining responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and ethical compliance of their published research.

Ethics and Responsibilities in Post-Publication Discussion

All post-publication discussions must uphold academic integrity, professional respect, scholarly objectivity, transparency, confidentiality, and fairness.

Metta: Jurnal Ilmu Multidisiplin does not accept scholarly comments or responses containing:

  1. Personal attacks, harassment, intimidation, or defamatory statements.

  2. Discriminatory language or inappropriate criticism directed at an author's personal characteristics.

  3. Fabricated evidence, falsified information, or deliberately misleading representations.

  4. Unsubstantiated allegations of academic misconduct.

  5. Unauthorized disclosure of confidential research information or personal data.

  6. Plagiarism, inappropriate duplication, or unauthorized reproduction of intellectual materials.

  7. Deliberate manipulation of scholarly arguments or evidence.

  8. Undisclosed conflicts of interest that could materially compromise the independence or credibility of the discussion.

Contributors must distinguish scholarly criticism of published research from personal accusations against its authors.

Differences in philosophical, religious, cultural, political, theoretical, or methodological perspectives must be addressed through reasoned academic arguments rather than personal judgments.

All contributors must disclose relevant conflicts of interest in accordance with the journal's Conflict of Interest Policy.

Concerns involving confidential information, personal data, suspected research misconduct, or other sensitive matters should be communicated directly to the editorial office through appropriate confidential channels.

The journal may reject, request revisions to, decline publication of, or remove inappropriate comments from its discussion channels when they violate these requirements, subject to applicable editorial procedures and the need to preserve the transparency of the scholarly record.

Editorial decisions must prioritize academic quality, research integrity, procedural fairness, and responsible scholarly communication.

Corrections and Post-Publication Editorial Actions

If post-publication discussion identifies substantive errors or raises credible concerns regarding the integrity, accuracy, or reliability of a published article, the Editorial Board will conduct an appropriate assessment.

Depending on the nature, seriousness, supporting evidence, and implications of the identified problem, editorial actions may include:

1. Correction: Issuing a formal correction when an identifiable error can be addressed without fundamentally undermining the reliability of the article's principal findings or conclusions.

2. Editorial Clarification or Addendum: Publishing additional information or clarification necessary to improve the accuracy, interpretation, or completeness of the published scholarly record.

3. Expression of Concern: Publishing a formal notice when credible concerns regarding research integrity or reliability remain unresolved or require further investigation.

4. Retraction: Retracting an article when substantial evidence demonstrates serious unreliability, significant publication ethics violations, or other problems meeting the journal's established retraction criteria.

5. Institutional Investigation: Referring significant research-integrity concerns to relevant academic institutions, research organizations, or competent authorities when additional investigation is appropriate.

All corrective measures must follow the journal's Publication Ethics, Allegations of Research Misconduct, and Retraction Policy, taking relevant COPE guidance into account.

Formal corrections, expressions of concern, and retraction notices must be clearly identified, publicly accessible, and permanently linked to the relevant published articles wherever technically feasible.

Necessary scholarly corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions required to preserve scientific accuracy, authorship integrity, ethical compliance, or the reliability of the scholarly record shall not incur additional fees.

In accordance with the journal's Publication Ethics, an additional fee of IDR 1,000,000 per approved request applies exclusively to author-initiated, nonessential administrative modifications after publication that require additional editorial, technical, or production work.

These may include optional changes to nonessential publication metadata, contact information, or other administrative details that do not affect the scientific content, accuracy, authorship integrity, or scholarly validity of the published article.

The administrative modification fee does not apply to scholarly discussions, investigations, or corrective actions necessary to maintain research integrity.

Editorial decisions concerning scholarly corrections and retractions must remain independent of financial considerations.

Transparency and Accessibility

Metta: Jurnal Ilmu Multidisiplin is committed to ensuring that post-publication scholarly discussions, author responses, and relevant editorial outcomes are communicated transparently and remain accessible to readers.

Approved scholarly comments, author responses, and formal editorial notices may be made publicly available through the journal's appropriate editorial communication or publication mechanisms.

Where technically feasible, published scholarly discussions and editorial notices will be electronically linked to the original articles under discussion.

Formal scholarly correspondence may receive a DOI and appropriate publication metadata when supported by the journal's publishing procedures and considered necessary by the editorial team.

Such correspondence and editorial notices are mechanisms for maintaining scholarly discussion and the publication record and do not automatically constitute additional regular manuscript categories.

Corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions must be documented transparently and linked to the relevant articles in accordance with the journal's applicable publication ethics policies.

The original scholarly record must be preserved, and substantive corrections or editorial actions must be clearly documented through appropriate notices.

Readers should be able to distinguish between the original published article, subsequent scholarly commentary, author responses, and formal editorial corrections or retractions.

These measures support transparency, responsible academic communication, and the long-term reliability of published research.

Editorial Independence and Decision-Making

The Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board of Metta: Jurnal Ilmu Multidisiplin oversee the implementation of this policy and ensure that all scholarly responses are evaluated objectively, fairly, consistently, and independently.

Editors with actual or potential conflicts of interest concerning a published article, scholarly response, or related investigation must withdraw from the relevant evaluation or decision-making process when their impartiality could reasonably be compromised.

In such circumstances, editorial responsibility must be delegated to an appropriately qualified independent editor.

The editorial team retains the authority to determine the suitability, format, review requirements, and publication of scholarly responses.

Editorial decisions must be based on:

  1. Academic merit and scholarly originality.

  2. Relevance to the journal's Focus and Scope.

  3. Adequacy and credibility of supporting evidence.

  4. Methodological and analytical rigor.

  5. Compliance with publication ethics.

  6. Constructive contributions to scholarly discussion.

  7. The need to preserve the accuracy and integrity of the published scholarly record.

Editorial decisions must not be influenced by financial contributions, institutional affiliations, academic positions, personal relationships, political considerations, or other interests unrelated to scholarly quality and research integrity.

The journal reserves the right to reject scholarly responses that do not meet its academic, ethical, or editorial standards.
