Abstract

This study is motivated by the tendency of previous studies on Lontar Taru Pramana to focus primarily on philological, ethnobotanical, and traditional medicinal aspects, while the dimension of Hindu theology embedded in community practices has received limited scholarly attention. This study aims to analyze the textual structure, community reception, and the meaning of living theology in Lontar Taru Pramana within the lives of Hindu communities in Buleleng Regency, Bali. This study employed a qualitative interpretive approach using structural theory, reception theory, and religious theory. Data were collected through manuscript studies, observations, in-depth interviews, documentation, and literature reviews. Informants were selected purposively and expanded through a snowball sampling technique. The data were analyzed descriptively and interpretively through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the structure of Lontar Taru Pramana is constructed through narrative, classificatory, enumerative, and procedural patterns that systematically form the Balinese usada knowledge system. The reception of Hindu communities in Buleleng Regency demonstrates that Taru Pramana remains actively preserved in traditional healing practices, the transmission of local knowledge, and ecological awareness. The meaning of living theology in the manuscript is reflected in beliefs regarding God as the source of life, the divine presence in nature, the interconnected relationship between humans and the environment, and the spiritual dimension of healing practices. This study confirms that Lontar Taru Pramana represents a contextual Hindu theological text rooted in local wisdom that integrates religious values, traditional healing practices, and theo-ecological perspectives within the lives of Balinese Hindu communities.
