Abstract

Tourism villages, as a representation of Community-Based Tourism (CBT), position local communities as the primary actors in destination management. This is closely related to local communities' active engagement in preserving cultural heritage while simultaneously improving the village economy. Suranadi Village, a cultural tourism village located in West Lombok Regency, possesses strong cultural and ecological capital; however, it faces challenges in the form of declining competitiveness caused by weak institutional systems, limited infrastructure, and the risk of cultural commodification. This study aims to formulate a development strategy for tourism destinations based on Hindu ecotheology in Suranadi Village. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. The results indicate that Suranadi Village possesses unique capital in the form of a temple complex featuring Panca Tirta (five sacred water springs) within a protected forest landscape, which can serve as the basis for Hindu ecological principles. Suranadi Village has a distinctive profile as a locus of Hindu spirituality on Lombok Island, intrinsically linked to a protected forest area rich in flora and fauna. Procedurally, the urgent initial steps include documenting physical and non-physical facilities, developing a zoning map, and formulating a code of ethics agreed upon by the traditional stakeholders (temple priest) of Suranadi. The study concludes that the integration of Hindu culture and ecology can be established through ecological zoning based on the tri mandala concept, visitor codes of conduct, and the strengthening of institutional capacity. This establishment is expected to restore competitiveness, safeguard the authority of cultural heritage, and simultaneously strengthen the conservation of the protected forest.
